TANZANITE GEM AND IT’S CARE

There are several gemstones you can use to match your blue dress. We have the amethyst, blue topaz, blue sapphire and Tanzanite.

Somehow I am very much attracted to the color of Tanzanite gem. It is the “new kid on the block” of the gemstone kingdom. Tanzanite gems owe much of its beauty to an unusual gemological property called pleochroism, the ability to exhibit more than one color. When viewed from different directions, tanzanite gem can look blue, violet, purple, bronze or gray.Tanzanite is sometimes used as an alternate for the traditional December birthstones Turquoise and Zircon. Virtually all Tanzanites are gently heated to bring out their rich blue, violet and purple hues. It is important to keep in mind that Tanzanite may chip or break if exposed to moderate blows or sudden changes in temperature. When mountedon a ring or bracelet, special attention should be paid to ensure the gemstone is well-protected. It is best to wear Tanzanite gems in earrings and pendants.
Tanzanite can be cleaned with most any commercial jewelry cleaner or plain soap and warm water using a soft bursh. Be sure to rinse and dry thoroughly after cleaning.

Today I want to talk about Tanzanites. It gets its name Tanzanite because it was first discovered in Tanzania in East Africa. The color of Tanzanite Gem is a beautiful bluish purple. It is new to the market and has been around since 1967. Because this stone has become so popular, it has been deemed on the same level as turquoise and zircon as a birthstone for December.

Tanzanite gems are truly precious stones because they are few and are found only in Tanzania. Normally when  Tanzanite gems come from the mine, they are a calm greenish color. When Tanzanite gem is heated it becomes the almost violet shade. It gets heated to 600 degrees.  Tanzanite appears to have three very different shades of color in one stone. Almost all of the Tanzanite must be heated in order to create this awe-inspiring bluish purple color that everyone has fallen in love with.

In general, gemstones showing more blue are valued higher than those showing more violet, and medium dark colors are the ideal. Tanzanite gem is one of the rarest gem.
Tanzanite is used frequently as a ring stone, but with its hardness of 6.5, and it’s tendency to cleave, daily wear will dull the finish and its brittleness is a hazard. This lovely and expensive stone is better suited to earrings, pendants, tie pins and occasional wear rings or those with protective settings. LIFE GEMS

loose-diamonds

What are life gems? I am a philosopher, so naturally I try to find meaning for everything I do in life. So, to me life gems are those things that are of value which are precious - like Gemstones. It takes thousands of  years for Gems to form naturally in Nature. When I think of Gems I naturally think of Diamonds.

There is a subhashitam, “well-said or wise saying” in Sanskrit:

“Harder than the diamond and softer than the flower

Who indeed deserves to (or is able to) understand the hearts of great people?”

I love subhashitams because a lot of meaning is packed in a few concise lines. The implication in the above subhashitam is that great people have hearts harder than a diamond and softer than a flower because their hearts shine with purity radiating beauty and lustrous energy everywhere like a diamond and yet their hearts are full of compassion and soft like a flower.

In the subhashitam great people’s hearts are being compared to diamonds. Diamonds take millions of years to form under enormous heat and pressure.  They are found in volcanic magma that deposits in pipes (wide openings in the earth) or are washed away either by erosion or by nearby waters. These deposits are known as ‘alluvial deposits.’ The diamond is compressed carbon in its purest form.  Great people develop the culture of their soul in a similar fashion through great contemplation and by facing the challenges of their lives. Pure consciousness  results from the ‘alchemy of the soul’ or the symbolic ‘crucible of the soul’.

Who is able to understand great people? Only those who appreciate the ‘value’ of life gems. To one who does not understand, even a diamond can look like a piece of glass. But only one who is aware of true value can recognize the greatness of a superior being who develops great human values after deep contemplation and hardship in life.

Diamonds can be appreciated only by those who know the value of diamonds and who  are refined in their aesthetic sense to recognize its beauty. Diamonds, alone by themselves or in combination with other gems, make excellent gifts to give to that special someone  in your life or for that special occasion like an  anniversary, engagement, graduation or for no reason at all. What a wonderful way to show how much value you give to your friendship or relationship! Diamonds are forever indeed.

Did you know diamonds come in all colors besides white? Take a look at these gold earrings with round black diamonds.

Alternative Healing And Gemology

Well, yesterday I talked about Ayurvedic astrology and that led my mind to think deeper on the topic of Alternative Healing. Modern medicine so far dealt only with the physical aspects of a being and its healing, and to a certain extent the psychological being and its healing. Alternative healing talks about music therapy, aromatherapy, color therapy or chromo therapy and Gem therapy, pranic healing and Reiki.

In vedic philosophy, the human being has been classified into five layers. Why do I want to delve into such deep analysis of the human body? Because when we analyze the data, we are then able to synthesize that data into a particular belief. After all, we did say Ayurveda is the science of life! So it is only befitting to analyze that data in a scientific manner.

The body is said to be comprised of five layers (so to speak).

1. The physical sheath (annamaya kosha).

2. The life force sheath or the energy sheath (pranamaya kosha).stud-ruby-earringsz_1691

3.  The mind sheath (manomaya kosha).

4. The ego and the intellectual sheath (jnanamaya kosha).

5. The bliss sheath (anandamaya kosha).

While music therapy and mantras tend to the healing of the mind sheath by bringing changes in the mental body, color therapy and gem therapy address the physical body. In the final analysis however, everything is operating at different frequencies of the energy level.

Our body is composed of the seven colors of the solar spectrum.  They are Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. A deficiency in any of these colors can result in diseases related to that deficiency in color. Whether it is a deficiency or an excess it can be balanced by wearing that color. For eg. a deficiency in red color  is attributed to diseases like Anemia, Fever, inflammation, general debility and weakness in the body. A balance can be brought in the body by wearing rubies and corals.

Wearing colorful clothes and seeing colorful flowers is also a form of color therapy.

Gemstone Jewelry And It’s Use

solitaire-emerald-ring_2848Wearing jewelry is a choice. It is really an accessory to our clothing that gives beauty to the overall appearance. While we eat what we want,  to please ourselves, we wear clothes and jewelry, to give others a pleasing look of  ourselves. But the truth of the matter is that it is not only pleasing to others but it also has a beneficial  effect on our body and mind. To say the least, who does’nt feel confident when they know they look beautiful!?

Ayurveda is a name given to traditional Indian medicine. Similar knowledge is presented in other countries as ‘alternative medicine or healing’. The word ‘Ayurveda’ literally means ’science of life’ and it incorporates many treatments including Gemstone therapy, massage therapy, color therapy and aromatherapy.

In using Gemstones for healing of different conditions, Ayurvedic astrology recommends different Gemstones according to ones birth chart. These Gemstones include Garnet, Amethyst,Diamond, Agate, Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire,Moonstone, Opal and Topaz.

Many of the astrologers recommend using these Gemstones either daily or during the times of detrimental planetary effects. Some of these stones are combined in jewelry articles to cure physical and psychological diseases. In my case about five years ago, when he noted according to my birth chart that I had personal relationship problems, an atrologer recommended a particular size Emerald set in gold to be worn on my pinky finger. They do get quite specific while recommending such solutions. I was reminded of this fact when recently many people started commenting that my Emerald ring was beautiful.   An Emerald supposedly makes the wearer wise and intelligent. It increases the wearers wealth and prosperity and blesses  the native with children, protects one from evil and is beneficial for good eye sight.
